Study Visa

Canada is well known for its high standard of education and living and is the most preferred destination for international students to pursue their studies and make their future. Every year Canada welcomes more than 100,000 students to study and explore amazing career opportunities.

To obtain a student visa, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • successfully accepted at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada
  • proof of financial support for your education and living in Canada for the period of study
  • english proficiency test (IELTS, TOEFL etc.)
  • must be able to obtain a police clearance certificate, if required
  • must be physically fit and provide the medical proofs
  • Promise to leave Canada upon the completion of your education.

Upon successfully graduating from the program of study, the student receives a Post Graduate Work Permit for a minimum of one to a maximum of three years.

Students can apply to become the permanent resident of Canada after their studies but they have to maintain eligibility criteria.

You will be met by an officer from the Canada Border Services Agency.

You will need to show the officer:

  • your letter of introduction from the visa office;
  • your passport or other valid travel documents;
  • the letter of acceptance from the school you will be attending;
  • proof of funds documents; and
  • your temporary resident visa, if required.
  • if you meet all the necessary conditions, the officer will give you a study permit.

Note: Canada Border Services Agency officers make the final decision on whether you will receive a study permit, based on Canadian law.

IRCC made some changes to the International Student Program. According to the new rules, the students can work part-time (up to 20 hours a week) without a work permit. It allows students to learn about Canada and its culture. It also allows students to work on-campus or off-campus.

Gain valuable work experience and supplement your spending allowance with part-time student jobs for international students.

While you must supply sufficient evidence that you can pay for your tuition and living expenses before you arrive in Canada, there are a number of work permit programs for international students and their spouses/common-law partners that make working in Canada possible.

Working in Canada can go a long way towards helping you establish business contacts for the future and can even help you immigrate after graduation.

Off-Campus Jobs

As an international student, you are able to work off-campus with a work permit while completing your studies if:

  • you have applied for your work permit and have received it.
  • you are only working up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions, and full time during scheduled breaks (for example, winter and summer holidays or spring break).
